Climate YES Eswatini – Ezulwini Youth Unite for Climate Justice

Faith-based youth leaders in Ezulwini gathered on 14 May 2026 at the Community Hall in Ezulwini Royal Kraal for the Climate Justice Advocacy Indaba hosted by Climate YES Eswatini. The event brought together 23 young people from churches affiliated with the Council of Eswatini Churches, the Conference of Churches, and the League of Churches to discuss environmental challenges and climate justice solutions for their communities.

The gathering aimed to empower faith-based youth with practical advocacy tools and inspire collective action against environmental negligence affecting Ezulwini and surrounding areas. During the event, Climate YES Eswatini presented on the current climate and environmental realities facing Eswatini, including waste pollution, deforestation, and the increasing effects of extreme weather. The organization also highlighted the role of youth in shaping climate policy and emphasized biblical teachings on stewardship, drawing from Genesis 2:15 and Psalm 24:1.

Participants heard inspiring testimonies from local churches already leading environmental action in their communities. Melika Jericho Church shared stories of community gardening projects, tree-planting initiatives, and youth-led waste collection campaigns.
Representatives from the Anglican Church spoke about eco-theology sermons, plastic-free communion practices, and participation in national climate marches.

A major point of discussion was the worsening littering and illegal dumping situation in Ezulwini. Participants described the environmental conditions as alarming and agreed on the urgent need for coordinated action involving churches, youth groups, and local leadership.

Several resolutions were adopted during the indaba. Climate awareness campaigns will be rolled out across churches in Ezulwini, while advocacy efforts will focus on pushing for anti-littering bylaws and stronger parliamentary action on climate justice and sustainable development.

In a major commitment, Mr. Maziva, Chairperson of the Community Development Committee, announced that monthly community clean-up campaigns will begin in June 2026 across all zones of Ezulwini. He also pledged to engage local traditional leadership on
the establishment of a Community Environment Day expected to take place in August 2026.

The Eswatini National Youth Council (ENYC) also encouraged participants to apply for national development workshops and committed to integrating Climate YES Eswatini into Youth Parliament engagement platforms.

The event concluded with renewed commitment among participants to champion environmental stewardship and climate justice within their churches and communities. As echoed throughout the indaba, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” Faith-based
youth in Ezulwini are turning those words into action.
