Climate YES Rwanda spearheaded a high-impact environmental campaign in the Rusizi District on December 20 and 23, 2025. Operating under the theme “Actions to Protect Our Common Home,” the two-day event united over 250 youth from five distinct Christian denominations to bridge the gap between faith-inspired advocacy and grassroots ecological action.

The inter-denominational coalition launched its restoration efforts by planting 1,500 climate-resilient seedlings—including avocado, lemon, and Alnus acuminata—on land provided by the Anglican Church of Rwanda (EAR) Kamabuye. These species were strategically chosen to prevent soil erosion while providing long-term food security. Following the planting, participants marched to the YEGO Center Rusizi, collecting plastic waste along the route.

The campaign utilized Bonezaball, an innovative sports-based advocacy tool, where players used equipment crafted from recycled plastics to promote a circular economy. To sustain this momentum, the Climate YES Rwanda Committee underwent specialized training at the RDIS field office, focusing on governance, strategic advocacy, and data-driven monitoring to ensure an 80% survival rate for the new trees. This multi-faceted approach serves as a global model for youth-led climate resilience.
