Climate YES Uganda – Side event at LCOY Uganda 2026

Climate YES Uganda participated in the LCOY Uganda 2026 held in Kampala from August 5–7, 2026, under the global framework of YOUNGO the official youth constituency of the UNFCCC). During the conference, Climate YES successfully hosted a side event in Pavilion D, titled “Faith in Action: Scaling Youth-Led Green Innovations for a Resilient Uganda,” organised alongside the Namirembe Diocese Youth Ministry and Christ the King Catholic Church Kampala.

The primary focus of the side event was to explore how diverse faith traditions can unite to tackle the ecological crisis. Driven by deep theological convictions, young activists merged spiritual values with environmental entrepreneurship, tangible grassroots advocacy, civic action, and direct legislative campaigns. The gathering brought together an interfaith panel of session leads and speakers—including Mr. Mayanja Godwin (Moderator), Mr. Lule Tefeero (Anglican), Mr. Lasuban Jerry Etolu (Pentecostal), and Mary Theresa N. (Christ the King Catholic Church)—demonstrating that faith-based movements are central to dynamic, inclusive climate advocacy.

Throughout the three-day conference, Climate YES Uganda achieved remarkable national visibility and built critical partnerships:

  • Climate YES published a feature article in New Vision, Uganda’s leading national newspaper, amplifying faith-based grassroots solutions to a nationwide audience.
  • National Coordinator Mayanja Godwin was invited to a prestigious Trainer of Trainers (ToT) conference hosted by GAYO and the Youth Climate Council of Uganda. This platform provides advanced training in UNFCCC processes, Climate Finance, Climate Justice, and strategic communication.
  • The movement established strong ties with Laudato Si’ Uganda and received interest from three new organizations—including GreenFaith Africa—seeking to collaborate and scale the faith-based climate agenda.
  • Climate YES received multiple high-profile mentions across LCOY 2026, cementing its status as the premier faith-based climate movement in Uganda.

Looking Ahead

With expanded networks, national recognition, and a clear vision for faith-rooted climate justice, Climate YES Uganda continues to lead the charge in mobilising young Christians for sustainable environmental action across the country.
