Climate YES launches in ESWATINI
In the efforts to grow the movement, Climate YES launched a new national hub in ESWATINI, Southern Africa. The launch took place on the 25th October 2025 at St. George and James’ Anglican Church in Manzini and brought together 28 young Christians from 9 denominations.
The participants collectively agreed that there is need for the church leaders to get involved together with the young people in action and advocacy for climate justice. Among the participants were those living with disabilities for example Albinism who shared the different cultural and climate challenges they face in their daily life.
Nozipho Maphanga a youth living with albinism has to say, “I learned that one of the organisation goals is to educate, advocate and to also amplify diverse voices in line with the Paris agreement and NDC’s. This encourages progress in climate action, promotes good health and well-being, reduces inequalities, and fosters peace, justice, and strong institutions for People with Disabilities (PWD’s).” She exclaimed, “With rising global temperatures, our health and quality of life are increasingly at risk, and the planet becomes less hospitable for people like us. Recognizing the lack of representation for marginalized groups in climate discussions, I felt compelled to advocate for a voice in this space!”
Climate change is a global crisis and the most pressing challenge as we speak which is attributed to anthropogenic. Climate change poses a major threat to Eswatini, where floods, storms, reduced crop yields, and water shortages are straining the nation’s water, energy, and food systems, highlighting its vulnerability and limited adaptation capacity. It is very unfortunate that this crisis knows no boundaries, people with disabilities are marginalized yet they are the most vulnerable when it comes to climate change exacerbating their existing vulnerabilities and limiting their access to essential resources and services.
Isaiah 43:2-3 when you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and seba in your stead.
Climate YES calls upon all actors to commit to climate action with urgency so that we maintain a livable environment for all.
