Environmental school club launched at Harvest International, Kampala
Climate YES Uganda launched an environmental club at Harvest International School, Kampala Uganda on the 13th September 2024 during a training workshop that convened 10 teachers and 10 student leaders under the theme, “ Conservation and Sustainability through the 3Rs ;Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.”
It is important for us to inspire the children into matters of environmental conservation and sustainability. It is equally worthy to let them know that they aren’t too young to act in efforts to maintain our common home livable especially at this time where the world is facing the harsh effects of climate change. It is upon us to positively adjust our behavior, champion responsible consumerism, proper disposal of garbage, reuse and safely recycle plastic waste and other possible materials that pose a threat to life of different organisms.
During the same workshop, the leadership of the environmental club was elected, guided on their different roles as they spread the information to fellow students in the school, their homes, churches and the overall communities from which they originate. After the training, students presented their art paintings and poems elaborating their knowledge about the theme and possible proactive action points.
We are hopeful that these seeds planted will blossom as ambassadors of environmental conservation and stewardship. Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it. With this in mind, Climate YES will keep planting more such seeds among the young generation for they’re the today and a promise of a better future.
This was successfully possible in partnership with the school, Uganda Wildlife Authority and the Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO).
